 Anishinaabe Clan System

Governing Structure of Anishinaabe People on Turtle Island

Odoodemig

The Great Clan System has been an organizing structure amongst anishnabe people which insures social order and good health for all. Through ceremonial keepers the laws and ways of healing have been preserved. The challenge for all Canadians and society as a whole is to make a personal commitment that the Clan System continues to thrive.

Manitou Aki Ehnaakonegaywin (Creators Earth Law)

Manitou Aki-Ehnakonegaywin describes the sacred relationships to all life and our environment, (Land, Air, Water, Fire). The Anishinaabe have always interpreted the treaties signed as encompassing these values and beliefs and some day Canadians would honor their obligation to share resources and benefits coming out of the treaty arrangement.
